DEE CLEMENTS Dee Clements’ sculpture is a product of his life experiences and interests. The memories of the Armour, South Dakota community where he was born and raised; its family, the sense of freedom as a youth, its sense of community and its people have been a continuing source of inspiration for his Americana Series. Clements grew up drawing which led to a BFA at the University of South Dakota and his MFA in Colorado. “When I created my first sculpture out of clay I had a sense I had found my passion.” Clements states, “Effective sculpture is a craft. Today my passion is the study of art history, anatomy, and drawing, developing the use of tools and materials and learning the process of sculpture production. By mastering these tools of trade, one may portray the content of the person, to capture through the face and figure the spiritual essence of the individual.” A member of the National Sculptures’ Guild, Clements has had works commissioned by corporations and cities and has had pieces placed in both public and private collections world wide. |
