CORY CLOPTON “The tension achieved through a controlled color field against a spontaneous and instinctive mark is what drives me to invent a new and more successful solution every time I begin a series of work.” Cory creates paintings and cut-paper assemblages in order to maintain a personal sanity and balance through raw visual self-expression. He prefers to work “in series” as he constantly experiments with various compositional formats (diptych, triptych, polyptych) and presents the artwork horizontally as well as vertically. For color scheme, Cory generates uncommon solid hue combinations by utilizing alternative color theories like that of Albert Munsell. To compliment his geometric use of color Cory explores expressive mark-making techniques using non-traditional tools (rope, spoons, forks, Q-tips, broken paint brushes). |
